Free to use
Section titled “Free to use”The map, its embeds and saved views are free for personal use, students, research and teaching, journalism, and registered charities and community organisations. Credit the data as listed in Sources and licences.
Commercial and public-sector use needs an agreement
Section titled “Commercial and public-sector use needs an agreement”Using à portée in a product or service you sell, in paid work for clients (consulting reports, real-estate listings, site selection, advertising), or in the work of a government, public agency or health authority, or a consultant working for one, needs a conversation and a contract first. Public bodies get a public-sector rate. That covers the map, its embeds and map images, and anything built from them. What is open and what is not
Section titled “What is open and what is not”à portée releases its dataset of everyday places, matched across OpenStreetMap, Overture and public sources, as open data under the Open Database License (ODbL). Its sources are credited in Sources and licences.
Everything built on top of it to provide the service is proprietary to Ammil Industries: the walking, cycling and transit times, the maps, saved views, and the software behind them. Where they show OpenStreetMap-derived results, they credit OpenStreetMap contributors as the ODbL requires.
The à portée pro subscription
Section titled “The à portée pro subscription”à portée pro is sold by Ammil Industries Ltd. for CAD $20 a month, month to month, with no minimum term.
- Billing. You pay by card through Stripe when you subscribe, and again on the same day each month. Stripe emails a receipt in Ammil Industries Ltd.’s name for each payment.
- Cancelling. Cancel at any time from the à portée pro page (“Manage subscription”). à portée pro stays on until the end of the month you have paid for, and you are not charged again.
- Refunds. A month already paid for is not refunded, in whole or in part, unless the law requires it. If something went wrong with a charge, write to services@aportee.ca.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, Stripe tries the card again over the following days and à portée pro stays on meanwhile. If the payment still cannot be collected, the subscription ends and so does à portée pro.
- Promotion codes. A code can make some months free. While the total is zero no card is asked for; when the free months end, the subscription renews at CAD $20 a month if a card is on file. Without one, the renewal cannot be paid and à portée pro ends as for a failed payment.
- Deleting your account cancels the subscription straight away, without a refund for the rest of the month.
à portée pro is for individuals who want to support the site. Organisations, paid or public-sector work and larger use need a licence or agreement, as described above: write to services@aportee.ca.
No warranty
Section titled “No warranty”Times are modelled from open data and can be wrong; see the methodology. Do not rely on them where a mistake could cause harm.
